The Great Barrier Reef

While in Cairns, we went on a day tour out the the Great Barrier Reef. We were on a pretty big boat with about 50 people. It was pretty classy inside with comfy seats and they served us tea. During the trip out to the reef, a lot of people got sea sick from beings inside. We sat outside at the front of the boat which was pretty fun when we hit some big waves. We got to snorkel 2 different parts of the reef and both were absolutely amazing.

Some of the creatures we got to see were parrot fish, giant clams, sea slugs, star fish, a sea turtle and a shark (the blue picture that is slightly blurry is of the shark we saw). We also did a glass bottom boat tour with one of the crew members named Elvis. He showed us the different types of coral as well as various sea slugs. He took us to a spot that had three giant clams living close together. It was pretty amazing. One our way back to the boat, I saw a sting ray swimming under the glass bottom boat. Elvis was quite entertaining and funny. On our way back to Cairns, he pulled out his guitar and played for us. He was quite good and did a great impression of Elvis and Louis Armstrong.

The reef was absolutely breath taking and I couldn't get over how colourful the fish were. It really is another world under the water.
