Bundaberg

We have spent the month of May living with a family of five in Bundaberg. The have dogs, cats, chickens and birds.

The highways are all lined with sugar cane as you come and go to Bundaberg. There are also some sections of avocado trees and macadamia nut trees. It is pretty different to wheat, corn and pine.

The family we are staying with has twin girls named Eryn and Rylee who are 10 and they have an 8 year old girl named Meg. They have adopted us like an aunt and uncle. They are pretty cute kids with big imaginations. They have invented imaginary kingdoms that their cats are rulers of. Nemo, their orange tabby is the king of the Nimronians, other cats, who live on Mars and wear red sparkly clothing. Pik Pik, also known as Pickle is the king of a candy kingdom whose subjects are made of candy (otherwise they might be eaten by Pickle). Their new kitten, Minnie, does not yet have a kingdom. They are working on coming up with a kingdom for both Mannie and Fiona to rule over. So far, they think Fiona's kingdom is in the clouds, since she likes to sleep in high places.

We have been helping to do garden work and house work here. Mike and I have planted roses and palm trees, helped line the flower beds with old bricks, finish maki a path, laid stones to make a walkway/patio, walked the dogs, fixed the dog fence and baked cookies for the girls lunches.

The three dogs, who seem to have fallen in love with us are Shrek, the little white one, Sophie, the little one with the black head, and Shirley, the Australian cattle dog. Shirley likes to chase the neighbour's cattle and kill the family's chickens, so she needs to stay locked in the dog run. Shrek and Sophie can fit under the dog run fence, so they usually hang out with us while we are working. The new kitten Minnie, has also adopted us and likes to sleep in our room, both with and without us in there.
