Ravenshoe

We spent about two weeks in Ravenshoe. The town is in the Atherton Tablelands. We worked at a hemp farm during this time for a lady named Susanna. The property she owns is out of town and very beautiful. Her property backs onto a national park with a river and a water fall you can see from the main house. We stayed in the guest house/office, separate from the main house.

The main area on her land is where she grows the hemp for cosmetic and food use. She also has a bunch of banana trees, lime trees, an avocado tree, mandarin orange trees, sugar cane, and a garden. We were blessed to have fresh fruit off the tree every day. Some of the best bananas and mandarin oranges we have ever had. I made a wonderful smoothie with fresh from the garden avocado, bananas, limes and watermelon and it was absolutely fantastic!

Our main jobs there were helping to build a room in the main house, weeding the hemp patch, packaging hemp oil and protein, labelling containers and bags for the hemp products and general yard maintenance. Susanna's company is a web based one that sells hemp oil and protein as well as hemp lotions, soaps and body products. We were able to sample her lotion and soap and they were wonderful. She is also a naturopath and works in health and well being. The main house is meant to be a school for teaching people on health and well being but is still being built. It was quite big and open inside with beautiful artwork on the walls.

Susanna did take us to see some of the area. We went to Millcreek falls to walk the dog, Carlos, one day after work. There is a beautiful waterfall to see. We walked through the park area in the jungle which was very beautiful. This area actually used to be a military training area during World War II and some of the old building structures are still there. While we were walking, we almost walked into a kangaroo. It was in the tall grass and actually spooked us. It was less than 5 feet away and then Carlos started barking and scared it off. It was pretty cool. We also got to go Innot hot springs. She packed us a picnic lunch which was wonderful. It was a nice relaxing day. That night we also had a big bonfire and we roasted veggie dogs over the fire for dinner.
