Melbourne

When we got to Melbourne, Ellen, Jack, Marie and Sarah ended up at the same hostel as us. We spent almost all of time together. We went on a 3 hour walking tour of Melbourne and got to see some old buildings and street art. We also got to learn about the history of Melbourne. We found out it was almost called Batmania because one of the founders of Melbourne had the last name Batman. I thought that was pretty awesome. We stayed at a hostel called Urban Central in South Bank for 3 days. Chris and the other Marie hung out with us at well but were staying at other hostels.

We tried going out in the evening to experience some Melbourne nightlife. We found out that nothing is really open during the week and that Friday, Saturday and Sunday are really the only days to do anything. We spent a few nights wandering chapel street, St. Kilda and Fitzroy trying to find some where to dance. We did have fun as a group wandering around and got to see a lot of the area.

We moved to a hostel in St. Kilda for 4 days. The area was beautiful and close to the beach but not really what we were looking for. Jack had come with us to this hostel. The people staying at the hostel were quite cliquey, so it was difficult to get to know them. I did manage to find an amazing hair salon on Chapel street that gave me an awesome hair cut. They are called Razor Dolls and I encourage anyone reading to check them out on google and youtube. They are super fun and edgy. It was a great experience. We also explored Brunswick street in Fitzroy quite a bit and fell in love with the area. Jack, Mike and I moved to a hostel called Tramstop 14 Backpackers. We ended up spending the rest of our time in Melbourne there.

The hostel was right on Brunswick street and the owner and people staying there were great. We befriended the owner, Evan and his amazing daughter Margarehita. The first night there we got to meet almost everyone in the hostel and got invited out. We met Ernie, Sabina, Steph, Kas, Jonny, Ash and Ben from the UK, Nina and Rebecca from Germany, Yuski from Japan, Bas and Joyce from The Netherlands, Alice from Italy, Andrew from California and Noddy from Ireland. The hostel felt like a family and everyone got along quite well. Mike, Jack and I decided to stay at the hostel for a few weeks and Mike and I started looking for work.
