Alligator Gorge

Day 6

Our last adventure on our tour was a stop and a short 2.5km hike in alligator gorge. After a pancake breakfast we drove to the gorge and during our drive we got to see half a dozen or so euro kangaroos. At one point, one of the kangaroos was actually jumping alongside the bus. It was amazing to see.

The gorge itself was absolutely beautiful and such a contrast to the red desert. It was very lush and green and still had red rock. We first walked to a lookout over the gorge and then we walked down 261 steps (we played a game to count them on our way down) and then walked to the terraces. The terraces were rock ledges/steps we walked along that had a creek following along to one side. It was a very beautiful walk and the sound of the running water was very enjoyable. We then walked along the creek through the gorge.

Since it had rained so much in the last week, there was more water than usual. At one point we were expecting to have to walk through the water so we took our shoes off and rolled up our pants. As I took my first step, I dropped my shoes into the water. Everyone had a good laugh. We walked along to rocks to keep out of the water than up a hill to get back to the bus. It was a wonderful and one ofmy favourite areas during the tour.

After that we packed everything up and drove for 250km to Clare where we stopped for lunch and wine tasting. We had a picnic in a park and most of the group got a wine buzz from the first tasting on an empty stomach. After that we drove another 250km to Adelaide. We had an after party with the group which consisted of going our for Chinese food for supper. It was a really nice way to end the trip. We then all said our goodbyes and went back to our hostels.
