Adelaide

Between all of our tours through central Australia, Kangaroo Island and the southern coast, we stayed in Adelaide. It is a very nice city and is a good size. Our hostel was great and right beside China town. We got free pancakes for breakfast every which was pretty awesome. Adelaide is known as the city of churches because there are so many. The city is a good mix of old architecture and modern. There are some beautiful buildings.

Ross took us on a mini tour around the city. We went up to mount lofty to lookout over the city. We found out Adelaide was designed by a colonel and is a grid city. It was built inland to protect it from cannons from ships and the main gardens of the city were a cannon ball length from the city to defend the city. The view was pretty amazing and we got to see little wrens flying around. They were super cute. Afterward we drove to one of the beaches for ice cream and doughnuts. Afterwards we walked along a jetty that was full of ink spots from squid that fish men have caught.

On our last day here, it was raining so we walked to the museum and art gallery. They were both free and we spent the day in there. It was national aboriginal week and we got to watch a performance. The gallery was an aboriginal focus and very interesting. We got to learn a lot about what some paintings mean, medicine, water sources, diet and weapons. The museum had a southern pacific display on Papua New Guinea and Fiji which was really interesting as well.
