Nimbin

We took an hour and a half bus ride from Byron to Nimbin. Nimbin is by far my favourite place here. The people are friendly and nice. They are pretty straightforward about drugs too. I was politely asked 5-6 times if I "was doing alright" and if I "wanted marijuana or shrooms" and when I said no thank you, they politely said "cheers" and were on their way. Our bus driver told us the code for the cops being around was someone hailing a taxi, which there are no taxis in Nimbin but the cops also know this.

There were quite a few interesting shops selling clothes, jewelry, herbs and marijuana paraphernalia. We stopped at a vegetarian cafe and had some great iced coffee (which they put ice cream over here, I had coconut ice cream in mine) and some lunch. They food was very tasty. We then went to the Nimbin museum which was awesome. It was put together as an art project originally. You follow the rainbow snake (painted on the floor) throughout the museum. It goes from early times of the aborigines to the pioneers, Christians and then the hippies. They have old newspaper clippings, photos, art work and object everywhere. They also had a lot of quotes everywhere. When the "white man" came and changed the way of life, the rainbow snake became white and devoid of colour, like the culture that was forever altered because of them. You were able to touch everything too,mid you wanted. I took a ton of pictures. There was a lot of food for thought there.
