Last days in Sydney

On Wednesday, Caitlin, Max, Mhairi (from Scotland), Sarah (from Paris), Simon (from Switzerland), Mike and I went to china town and Bondi beach. China town was pretty cool because they are celebrating Chinese New Years. They have two weeks of sales, food and festivities for it. We walked through the indoor market and grocery store. They had some pretty neat stuff. Then the sun came out and we headed to Bondi Beach.

The beach was beautiful with turquoise water. It wasn't overly busy, beeping the middle of the week and all. I got to see people surf for the first time in real life. It was pretty impressive. A few of the surfers had some good wipeouts. We spent the last night in Sydney at the Blue Parrot with our friends. It was nice and low key.

On Thursday, Mike was invited by a group of guys to play football (soccer). Caitlin, Mhairi and I came along to watch and take pictures. All three of us ended up playing at one point. It was not the best idea to go at 1pm on a hot sunny day, everyone was sweating pretty bad but we all had a lot of fun. We went for a late lunch/early supper after that before we had to catch our bus. We had Thai food, and man is it ever good here. I have to be careful since it is authentic Thai, meaning it is very spicy but still very good. Then Mike and I caught the train to the Greyhound and headed to Byron Bay. The highways are very cool. They are carved out of the rock and in the jungle. There was jungle as far as the eye could see. As it started to get dark, I watched the bats dancing above the tree tops, catching an evening snack. It was also the first time I got to see the stars here. I saw Orion's Belt right away but it is upside down here. It was amazing to see them.

The ride on the bus was horrible. There was no light in the bathroom and no water or hand sanitizer in there either. We ended up driving for 2 extra hours because of the flooding and had to detour. It ended up being a 13 hour bus ride. We both slept as best we could. Now we are in the beautiful Byron Bay with our hostel being right across the street from the beach. We are here for 4 days and 3 nights before we head to Brisbane. It is beautiful here but we are missing our friends and the awesome staff at The Blue Parrot.
