Today is Australia Day with a lot going on. Today we also moved from the hotel to a hostel. The hostel is really nice and the people here are really friendly. We met some Canadians from Toronto today. It is called Blue Parrot Backpackers. They had a BBQ for everyone today for the holiday and cooked us veggie burgers! We are here for three nights before we catch the greyhound to Byron Bay. We are stopping there on our way to Brisbane and then Stanthorpe. We were contacted through Help Exchange to work at a restaurant and winery where they "love Canadians". We are both pretty excited about this.
Today we walked from out hostel through downtown (to get a local cell phone) and then to Sydney Opera House. There was a lot of people everywhere for the holiday. The Opera house was very cool and all the ships in the harbour. When then walked along the harbour and through the botanical gardens back to our hostel. It was a beautiful but long and very hot walk. Sadly, our hostel does not have air conditioning so we are currently dying in front of the little fan in our room.
