Dolphins, Rock Pools and Butterflies

For our last weekend in Gympie, Kath spoiled us. On the Saturday she took us for lunch and then to the hardware store/garden centre where she bought seeds, seedlings, new gardening gloves and a chicken coop for the retreat. Mike and I were both excited for new seeds to plant.

On the Sunday, Kath took us to Tin Can Bay to see the dolphins. Every morning at 8:30 am, the wild dolphins swim into the bay to be fed. When we went, only the alpha male, Mystique, had come for breakfast. He was apparently in a really good mood because he was splashing around and jumping out of the water, which he normally doesn't do. I managed to film one of his jumps out of the water. Then people lined up to buy fish to feed him. Because of all the fish, there were pelicans and other birds hanging around. They weren't afraid of people and came right up close. We had a lovely breakfast after seeing the dolphin and then headed back to Gympie to see the rock pools.

The rock pools were quite beautiful. Mike got to do some climbing and exploring so he was quite happy. The water was cool enough to be refreshing. I had a butterfly come and land on my foot while I was taking pictures. The outside of the wings were purple. The butterflies here are amazing. Some are so big that I think it is a bird flying by me. There are a lot of monarch butterflies here too.

Later in the day, Adam and His brother Wayne picked us up to go 4x4ing along some of the dirt roads. It was pretty fun. We went up a steep hill/small mountain to a look out where we could see almost to the ocean. It was a very beautiful spot. On the way there and back we had to wait for a herd of cows to move out of the middle of the road. It was great to be able to see some sights that the locals get to see.
